4 Places To Explore in New Jersey

Hello, fellow travelers! New Jersey may be the last place you think of when you hear “interesting attractions” but contrary to what people might think, New Jersey is full of surprises.

Grounds for Sculpture

Grounds for Sculpture is a 42 acre sculpture park located in Hamilton Township, very close to the capital of Trenton. The museum is also located on the former site of the Trenton Speedway. Founded in 1992 by John Seward II, the museum is dedicated to the understanding of modern sculptures. Admission is a bit on the pricy side, with adult tickets being $25 each and seniors, active military personnel, and medical personnel getting a $7 discount so their tickets are $18. Students aged 6-17 get their tickets for $12, and kids 5 and under get in free.

Some of the sculptures located at Grounds for Sculpture. The museum carries more than 270 of these magnificent pieces of art.

BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham

BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham is the largest Hindu mandir (temple) located in the United States. BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham is located in Robbinsville, New Jersey, between the New York Metropolitan area and the Greater Philadelphia area in Mercer County. The temple is open 9-7:30, and is free to get in, although visitor registration is required on certain Hindu festivals, national holidays, and weekends.

The mandir itself is gorgeous- carved from wood and white marble, it took 12,000 people and 4 years to completely finish the temple.

Cape May

Cape May is one of the oldest seaside resort towns in the United States. Located on the southern tip of the Cape May peninsula in New Jersey, this gorgeous seaside town is known for its beautiful gingerbread houses- Victorian style houses with lavish exterior decor.

The Lobster House

The Lobster House is a restaurant on the Cape May Marina. They serve fresh seafood, and their food is really good.

The Ugly Mug

The Ugly Mug is another seafood restaurant located in the Washington Street mall. Washington Street Mall is the main shopping district on Cape May, and consists of small shops selling souvenirs, accessories, clothing, and more.

I got to try lobster. Lobster isn’t really my thing, but I do like it sometimes.

Congress Hall Hotel

The Congress Hall Hotel is one of the most notable landmarks in Cape May. It is a historic hotel, being built in 1816 as a wooden boarding house. After years of disrepair and abandonment, Congress Hall Hotel is now a seaside hotel and is part of the Cape Resorts hotel chain.

Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls

This store, located in the Washington Street Mall, has some of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever tasted. They don’t use too much mayonnaise, unlike some other shops, and you can still taste the fresh lobster.

Atlantic City

Atlantic City is often called the Vegas of the East Coast due to its sheer amount of casinos. Several notable casinos in Atlantic City include:

  • The Borgata
  • Ocean Casinos and Resorts
  • Golden Nugget
  • Bally’s Atlantic City
  • Hard Rock Cafe and Casino
  • Harrah’s

There are only 9 casinos in Atlantic City, a fact that may surprise people who compare it to Vegas.

Despite its reputation as a gambling city, Atlantic City was not that bad. We got plenty of time to walk on the beach and the boardwalk.
