The Plumpton Park Zoo is a small zoo located in Rising Sun, Maryland, not far from Delaware. The zoo contains many animals such as zebras, giraffes, a sloth, turtles, cockatoos, and much more! Tickets cost $21.95 for adults and they are $18.95 for seniors.

Rehoboth Beach is Delaware’s most popular beach. It’s also a safe haven for LGBTQIA+ people. There is a lot to do on the beach, including Funland, an arcade, golfing, shopping, and Thrasher’s famous fries.

Kalmar Nyckel Foundation

The Kalmar Nyckel was a Swedish ship that was famous for bringing people from Sweden to America. It is important to Delaware because the colony of New Sweden was established in what is now Wilmington. The ship at the foundation is not the actual ship, but rather a replica. The foundation is interesting to explore, as it provides rich history about the ship and the role it played in settling New Sweden, later Fort Christiana, and eventually, the fort became the city of Wilmington, Delaware’s most populous city.

Delaware Art Museum

The Delaware Art Museum is an art museum located in downtown Wilmington. It was founded by artist Howard Pyle. The museum features primarily 19th and 20th century American artists.

Longwood Gardens

I mentioned Longwood Gardens in my post about 5 places to explore in Southeast Pennsylvania. It is located about 20 minutes from Wilmington, in Kennett Square. Longwood Gardens is one of the premier horticultural gardens in the nation, and it contains many beautiful flora species. Their Christmas Tree display is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen.

Michael N. Castle C & D Canal Trail

The Michael N. Castle C & D (short for Chesapeake and Delaware) Canal Trail Walk is a beautiful 12.1-mile long trail that stretches from St. George’s, located in the lower part of New Castle County, to Delaware City. The trail has stunning views of the canal and the St. George’s Bridge.
