Exploring the New England Aquarium
Hello friends! I recently traveled to Boston for 4 days, and one of my top spots was the New England Aquarium. They were holding a special Animal Crossing crossover, which previously happened in Seattle, so I decided to take the chance to travel to Boston to catch the crossover before it leaves to another aquarium on December 14.
About the Aquarium
The aquarium is located on Boston’s Central Wharf, the longest wharf in the United States. The aquarium is also about 3 stories tall with all stories being centered around the Ocean Tank, a tall, cylindrical tank that holds hundreds of fish, sharks, turtles, and other ocean life. The aquarium is also the largest aquarium in New England. New England residents (people who live in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire) get a discount.

Located just outside the aquarium is a statue of dolphins

Some of the fish in the Ocean Tank, including a cow nose stingray
One of the aquarium’s sea turtles
You can see another stingray, one of the turtles, and fish
Another photo of a turtle
A measurement of some sharks. Of course, I had to bring my beloved Ikea Blahaj.
Some of the creatures that prefer the dark
More fish from the dark ocean exhibits
A little eight armed starfish
I love this starfish because it reminds me of Patrick Star from SpongeBob
Lobster
A rare blue lobster. Most lobsters are red in color but can produce varieties such as blue, pink, and even multicolored lobsters.
A fish that was hiding under a rock
A starfish with one very short leg
An octopus sculpture. There are sculptures like this on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the aquarium
Double starfish
Another shy fish hiding under a sea anenome
I love this shot. It perfectly represents the diverse marine sea and plant life that is found in all oceans
A giant Pacific octopus. He appeared to be taking a nap.
Blathers facts about lobsters
Fact sheets about the octopus and sea urchin
Pascal the otter. If you play Animal Crossing, you know he only shows up when you are swimming and catch a scallop
The top of the Ocean Tank. Lucky for me, I came just in time for feeding time. The sea turtles all got some lettuce, and the other animals got some pellets.
Some garden eels. They are unique in the way that they plant themselves on the ocean floor and pop their little heads out every so often.
Some tiny seahorses. Seahorses are the only species where the males carry their young.
One of my favorite exhibits in any aquarium I go to is always the jellyfish exhibits. I love how jellyfish look when they’re floating around.
My fourth favorite sea animal (other than beluga whales, sharks, and sea lions) are moon jellyfish. I think moon jellyfish look elegant, and I love how they contrast with their dark environment.
More shark sizes.
Some pirahnas
A snake sculpture
Blathers giving facts about frogs
Some tiny, iridescent fish
These fish were part of an interactive exhibit showcasing how fish swim with sea currents. I felt a little bit bad for playing around with the machine, because the fish seemed to be struggling, but there are periods of time where the interactive part of the exhibit is shut off so the fish can get some rest.
A yellow poison dart frog
A blue frog
A green frog
An anaconda. He was hiding his head or taking a nap, so I could only capture his body.
Timmy and Tommy. If anyone has played Animal Crossing, they run the Nook’s Cranny shop.
The skeleton of a North Atlantic right whale
A turtle sculpture
Another two Blathers fact sheets about sea anemone and sea bass.
Another large sea star
Another lobster. I love how orange he is.
Two sea stars resting on the bottom of their tank
Blathers fact sheet about sea stars
It looks like this sea star is sprawled out on the bottom of its tank
A sea star and a flounder
One of the sea turtles taking an afternoon nap
Blathers factsheet about seahorses
Two Gentoo penguins grooming each other. I think they are mates.
Blathers, the museum curator we all know and love.
Some baby nurse sharks in the Science of Sharks exhibit
Some shark dioramas
A pink anemone fish
A little hermit crab
The mangrove exhibit
A brightly colored sea anemone
A beautiful statue of a penguin couple and their egg
Just outside the aquarium is a mini exhibit full of whale statues.
Overall, I love the New England Aquarium, and I would definitely come back if they have another fun exhibit such as the Animal Crossing aquarium crossover.
